Dear All,

Andreas has advised me that with his new job situation and current work
commitments he is not able to continue as leader of the group. However he
is still very involved with this subject in both his work and his caving
and so will continue to contribute where he can, and will also continue to
host our mailing list and web site.

For the time being I will therefore fill in as leader until I can sort
something out, and will also be keeping our web pages up to date as our
work proceeds. A lot of good work has already been done by many of you,
with many issues raised and discussed. My priorities now are to consolidate
where we are at, document it on our web pages, and start us making some
decisions in an orderly manner according to our work plan. I cannot promise
a speedy conclusion to our work, but with everybody's help I can promise
steady progress towards an eventual widely accepted solution.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Andreas very much for his
good work to date, especially for his help in setting up the group and for
providing our mailing list and web pages. It is unfortunate that at times
nasty things like "work", and making a living, overtake what we *really*
want to do!

And if you can read German, it's also worth having a look at Andreas'
recent thesis on cave and karst cartography and visualisation. It's quite a
significant work, and is on the web at:

We certainly hope Andreas will be able to contribute further to our work!
