This is the reason for problems in the screen display of rendered cave
passages in some software. Such a program draws the passages in the order
they are surveyed in and displays in some situations passages on top of
other passages in spite of that they have a greater distance from the
projection pane than the passage they are hiding.
This is one more reason for structuring the data in a way that represents
the topology of the cave and not the progress of the survey team only. Yes,
I do know that it is nearly impossible to change the behavior of cave
surveyors...
