Edited, Final & Leg data

To recap, we previously identified the following stages of refinement of cave survey data prior to it being used for producing a cave map. These are terms which we need to be agreed on before we start the actual XML discussions.

   Field
   Raw
   Edited
   Final
   Leg
   Reduced
   Adjusted
However further consideration suggests splitting Final and Leg Data to give the following revised list:

   Field
   Raw
   Edited
   Final - Corrected and Uncorrected
   Leg - Corrected and Uncorrected
   Reduced
   Adjusted
   Adjusted Leg

We have now settled on definitions for Field and Raw (Ref: Peter Matthews posting 7-Feb-03 14:49), and the next ones which seem convenient to discuss as a set are the following. These represent data which may have been "fixed up" and/or consolidated before the reduction calculations.

   Edited
   Final - Corrected and Uncorrected
   Leg - Corrected and Uncorrected

With the experience of doing the first two, we will hopefully be able to move a bit faster with this next lot. I am now also in a better position than I was before to keep things moving.

Based on the original drafts in my posting 12-Oct-02 17:47, here are the starting-point proposed definitions for this next subset of terms:

Edited Data

Raw data which has had or is having any kind of mistakes edited out of it, but no systematic instrument corrections have been applied. Comments:
1. The data has been modified since its Raw Data version, but has not yet been certified as Final Data.

Final Data - Corrected and Uncorrected

The input data which is currently the accepted final version of individual Shots or other measured data: Final Corrected if systematic instrument corrections have also been applied, Final Uncorrected if systematic instrument corrections exist but have not yet been applied. Comments:
1. This data is approved as now suitable for data reduction, but may or may not be ready for input to any particular survey reduction program depending on the program and what it can accept as input data.

Leg Data - Corrected and Uncorrected

Final Data which provides only a single set of the necessary Measurements for each Leg, possibly by consolidation of several sets of final Shot data: Leg Corrected if systematic instrument corrections have also been applied, Leg Uncorrected if systematic instrument corrections exist but have not yet been applied.
