To get the ball rolling on this item from Andreas' Tasks / Todo list, I
submit the following items (fields) for consideration. Think of these as
things that a Cave Survey specific XML representation should record.
This is not intended to address Cave Maps. This is also not all
inclusive and should be added to or subtracted from through thoughtful
deliberation in this forum. None of these titles are sacred, they're
merely the colloquial reference I use to get them on the table.
Cave Survey - To serve as the Root element of a CaveXML document
Data File Version - Identifies the release version of CaveXML the
document is based upon. Also useful for identifying extensions to the
CaveXML baseline.
Cave Name - Name of the Cave described by this Cave Survey
Comment - Free form commentary
Survey - An actual survey series
Survey Name - The name applied to this survey
Survey Date - Date survey was conducted
Survey Team - Team of persons conducting the survey
Member - one of the persons on the survey team
Name - the name of a member of the survey team
Role - the role performed by a memeber of the survey team
Declination - Magnetic declination for this survey
Survey Quality - the impled quality of the survey
Day - day the survey was conducted, part of survey date
Month - month the survey was conducted, part of survey date
Year - year the survey was conducted, part of survey date
Instruments - the collection of instruments used to conduct the survey
Compass - data about a compass used on the survey
Clinometer - data about a clinometer used on the survey
Tape - data about a tape used on the survey
Accuracy - assessed accuracy of a given instrument or reading
Correction - correction applied to an instrument or reading
Serial Number - serial number of an item, e.g. cave or compass
Owner - owner of an item, e.g. cave or compass
Shot - an element of a survey, one leg or shot
Processing - handling instructions for an item, e.g. correct, ignore,
subtract, etc.
>From - orienation of survey leg, necessary for determining Left, Right,
Up, Down
To - orienation of survey leg, necessary for determining Left, Right,
Up, Down
Length - measured distance between two points
Forward Azimuth - 360 degree compass reading looking from the "From"
station to the "To" station
Reverse Azimuth - 360 degree compass reading looking from the "To"
station to the "From" station
Forward Inclincation - +/- 90 degree clinometer reading looking from the
"From" station to the "To" station
Reverse Inclination - +/- 90 degree clinometer reading looking from the
"To" station to the "From" station
Left - Distance to left wall, when looking forward in the direction of
survey, at a given station
Right - Distance to right wall, when looking forward in the direction of
survey, at a given station
Up - Distance to ceiling, when looking forward in the direction of
survey, at a given station
Down - Distance to floor, when looking forward in the direction of
survey, at a given station
>From Depth - Measured depth of the "From" station (in a survey leg)
To Depth - Measured depth of the "To" station (in a survey leg)
Equivalent Station Reference -
Units - scale in which a measurement was read, recorded or calculated
Degrees - one potential unit of measure
Meters - metric measurement
Feet inches - English measurement
Decimal feet - English measurement in tenths of feet
GeoLocation - geographic cooridnates of a given survey element, e.g.
cave entrance, survey station, owners home, etc.
Coordinate system - system the coordinate is given in, lat long, UTM,
etc.
Map Datum - datum the geographic coordinates are based upon, WGS84,
NAD27, AGD84, etc.
Country Code - derived from UIS standards
Organization Code - derived from UIS standards
Elevation - elevation of a given element in the survey, geographic
location, survey station, etc.
Geology - local geology conditions of a given element of the survey
Header - data applied to the cave survey as a whole, but not
appropriately recorded as part of an individual survey
