Date is essential data. You want to be able to match photographs or gps readings, both of
which already have date information, with your survey data.
Geographic locations, as accurate as possible is also essential. I also worry about the
spread of locations and I had a friend unwittingly pass out dozen of waypoints I had
recorded in a semi-public domain. However, land owners, professionals (geologist,
biologist) and land managers expect real locations. This is their expectation when using
products such has ArcInfo. How else does one investigate a system spread over hundreds of
square miles? If you really are worried about a sensitive cave, DO NOT SURVEY IT, DO NOT
PUBLISH A MAP, DO NOT PHOTOGRAPH IT. Pretty simple, eh?
