Precisely. The discussion has had too much talk about how and why we survey cave in a
particular manner, rather than the technical aspects of recording the information. A XML
standard should not force a particular "style" on surveyors. Where the style gets enforced
is in the software applications which choose to support a feature or not, e.g. the SMAPS
feature of including "station height" which was the distance from the end of the survey
tape vertically to the station's position. If you want to talk about survey methods, go
back to the cavesurvey list server.
