I am using Survex, and there is error information in a separate file.
I think it's not the proper way to keep it.

Yes, and I'll try to explain, why.

I think that if we have universal XML format, it should be there.
However, using very simple preprocessor, it is possible to remove
all unnecessary information.

This is NOT a simple calculation. There is no completed theory on
multiple loop closing (while single loop closing is trivial). Compass and
Survex have different approach to it and gives different results.
No one of processing programs takes walls into account. Actually, the
data processing is not an easy task and generally we must not rely on
program
output. It should be checked.
Here is the example - I have a survey of a cave that in reality is a nearly
perfect grid of tunnels. But I think the surveyor had some piece of metal
in his pocket, so there is very complicated systematic error - all compass
readings are shifted by different angle - from 0 if the shot direction was
north or south
to approx. 10 degrees if it was east or west. I know that the best solution
is to repeat the survey, but the cave entrance collapsed...
Manually I can correct this survey better than any program.
So, generally data processing is an important stage in map making
and format should contain information about how it was done and
what results were obtained.
