The CaveXML website has now been updated with the new Tasks List and the
addition of a "What's New" page. As we go through each task I'll add a new
page for it so we can keep track of progress, drafts, etc, for that task.

http://www.karto.ethz.ch/neumann/caving/cavexml/index.html

To help speed things along and foster a team spirit we need some volunteers
to co-ordinate and/or action a couple of our tasks. If you can take on one
of the jobs below, please contact me directly:

1. Now that the Objectives, Task List etc are on the website, the new
"current task" is:

"5. Publicise the project to encourage participation from the speleo community.
It is important for a successful standard that it be suitable for the
wide range of speleo situations and practices used in various
countries.
It should be noted that XML inherently uses Unicode, so all languages
         can be handled."

So who would like to be our "CaveXML Advocate"? We need someone to take a
hold of this task, co-ordinate it, and see that it happens. And we need
some others to share the work by covering a particular publicity outlet,
and to follow up some of the non-English-language caver mailing lists. Some
outlets that come to mind are: Cavers Digest, caving newsgroups,
country-specific emailing lists, links on websites, the many country
national newsletters, ....

2. The other task is one which has only partially been completed:

"3. Catch up with the work already done in this area.
Each existing worker is invited to post a summary paragraph of
what they
have done. If they also have a web page, this should be linked to
from
          their summary."
We need someone to co-ordinate getting these paragraphs and either
producing a web page file for me to load on our site or sending me the text
to make into a web page. Title "Existing Work"?

In the meantime, I'll finish getting my posting ready to initiate
discussion on the first stage of the *next* "current task":
"6.1 Draw up survey and mapping data model(s).
These need to cover the range from raw survey data to final
co-ordinates
           to map graphics."
I've just found some of the old HTO discussions about the entities in a
cave survey so will check my current draft diagram and draft definitions
against those before posting them.

So, do we have any volunteers for the two tasks mentioned above?

Best wishes,

Peter
