I would like to capture the idea of taking a sketch from an active field
instrument (I'm thinking of a PDA-like device) and moving it to a computer
for later processing. The sketch might be stored in the device in several
different formats:

* Pixel map
* Bezier curves
* Location and orientation of glyphs (e.g. symbols for formations, slopes etc.)
* ???
* A combination of the above

Any of the above formats might be used in the computer to store the data.
The conversion of pixel maps to Bezier curves seems a natural
transformation, much like the transformation from pencil marks to
characters for the station, distance, azimuth, vertical angle, LRUD data
from a survey book.
